Crochet: Get Started with SC!

Single Crochet Projects

The single crochet stitch (SC) is one of the most basic stitches but there is no limit to what you can make. Believe it or not, all you need is a little practice, a touch of creativity, and a whole lot of imagination.

A good way to start is usually by making scarves (in my opinion). Since it is simple, and only requires knowing how to make a chain stitch and a single crochet (SC), it is really good for practice. Once you’ve mastered making a SC, you can do more variations.

To start, you mostly need two things.

HOOK: Various sizes. I began with a variety pack.

YARN:  Color of choice of course =)

I have two projects I am working on currently. One is a cowl scarf (absolutely love them because if you make one large enough, it becomes a hood too!), and the other is a mug cozy (requested by my sister).

Here are some past projects where I used the single crochet stitch.

Tissue Cover: I actually think this could double as a bag of sorts haha.

Cell Phone Sock: Buttons are one of my favorite things to add (and ribbons!).

Cup Sleeve: Going green!

Crochet Bracelet

I will be posting my own tutorial on the single crochet in the near future. But in the meantime, if you are curious or would like a head start, do a quick internet search. There’s a lot of great written tutorials and videos online. (Library is a good place too!)

Cheers Misc. Makers!
