Thing-A-Day ’11: Day 3

Day Three! I’m actually pretty proud that I’ve made it this far. Usually when it comes to “thing a day” projects I get burnt out or fall behind pretty fast. You know, that thing called life tends to butt in. Luckily this year, I have no life! Hahaha(sigh).

Today I finished up my first attempts at turning one of my original polymer clay pieces into a workable mold so that I can produce my charms a little quicker and with more consistency. Both quality and quantity tackled with this project!

Here is the original sculpting and the mold that resulted.

Not too shabby!

I’ve got a little trick for ya – when working with flexible molds and polymer clay, once you’ve got your clay pressed into the mold, toss it in the freezer for a minute or two. This will cool down the clay so it’s a little more firm and easier to pop out of the mold without deforming your shape. This is especially helpful when you’ve got tiny details or thin pieces to work with.

Here are a couple finished pieces using this mold.

Happy Day Three :)

Thing-A-Day ’11: Day 2

February 2nd – Groundhog Day and Day two of Thing-A-Day 2011! Woo! I’ve seen a lot of baking going on today with the other TAD’ers! Save me some, k?

(now on Etsy)

My clay charm today is my attempt at capturing a trend:

Silly Mustaches

I don’t know where these little guys came from… I don’t know why they’re so darn trendy… Regardless, I hope you like it. Happy Day Two!

Thing-a-Day ’11: Day 1

Something’s happening… It’s happening everyday this month, as a matter of fact. Creative folks all around the world are participating in a project to document their progress through the month of February. The assignment is simple: do something everyday until February 28th. Doesn’t matter what you do, just do it and document it. I’ve decided to give it a shot. Follow along with my projects and many, many others at Thing-a-Day.com.

Thing-a-Day, Valentine’s Day, American Heart Health Month, Creative Romance Month… So many reasons to kick off my TAD Project with a shiny, new, red heart! I’ve decided to devote my project to sculpting and documenting at least one little clay creating each day. I’ve worked with clay for almost three years and I fall more and more in love with the medium with each project I complete. This little red heart wasn’t made today, but I finished it today. That counts, right? I say it does… So here it is :D

Check it out in my Etsy shop, too! Enjoy!
